STURGEON BAY -- It's a historical finding, 139 years in the making. The schooner F.J. King was lost in the waters of Lake Michigan in 1886, and now new technology has unveiled digital images of this long-forgotten shipwreck.
The F.J. King was a prominent vessel of its time, and its sinking marked a significant event in maritime history. The shipwreck has remained largely undisturbed beneath the waves, preserving its structure and artifacts for over a century. Recent advancements in underwater imaging technology have allowed researchers and historians to capture stunning visuals of the wreck, offering a glimpse into the past.
These digital images not only highlight the ship's condition but also provide valuable insights into the construction techniques of the era. They serve as a reminder of the rich maritime heritage of the Great Lakes and the stories that lie beneath the surface. As the images circulate, they spark renewed interest in the history of shipwrecks and underwater exploration in the region.
