Momentum Technologies has appointed Ben Gilliams as Executive Partner for Technology, Operations and Strategy. The company announced the hire this week, bringing in a veteran with deep experience across the battery materials and recycling sectors.
Gilliams previously held leadership roles at Umicore and Redwood Materials, two companies known for their work in advanced materials and lithium-ion battery recycling. His background covers both the technical and operational sides of scaling industrial processes, which aligns with Momentum Technologies' focus on recovering critical materials from end-of-life batteries and manufacturing scrap.
In his new role, Gilliams will oversee technology development, day-to-day operations and long-term strategic planning. The company said his experience in commercializing complex recycling technologies will help accelerate its growth as demand for domestic sources of lithium, nickel and cobalt continues to rise.
Momentum Technologies uses a proprietary membrane separation process to extract high-purity materials from battery waste. The approach is designed to lower costs and reduce the environmental footprint compared with traditional hydrometallurgical methods.
Gilliams said he looks forward to helping the company move from pilot-scale work to full commercial deployment. His appointment takes effect immediately, and he will be based at the company's headquarters.
