Austin Community College officially opened its new Automotive Technology facility at the Round Rock campus with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 8. The event drew college officials, local leaders, and industry partners who gathered to celebrate the expansion of hands-on training programs in the region.
The facility is designed to prepare students for careers in a rapidly changing automotive industry. Coursework covers everything from basic engine repair to advanced diagnostics, electric vehicle systems, and hybrid technology. Classrooms and shop spaces are equipped with modern tools that mirror what technicians use in real service centers.
College representatives said the Round Rock location was chosen to meet growing demand from both students and employers in the northern part of the Austin metro area. Local dealerships and repair shops have struggled to find qualified technicians, and the new center aims to close that gap by offering short-term certificates and two-year degrees.
Students can enroll in evening and weekend classes, making it easier for working adults to gain new skills. The college also plans to partner with high schools in the area to create pathways for students interested in automotive careers.
Officials described the opening as part of a broader effort to align workforce training with local economic needs. The first cohort of students is expected to begin classes in the coming weeks.
